Have been wondering when will the counting end?

Looking at the ticket stub in my file reminds me of how we used to keep them for years, until they started fading, barely able to read the print anymore.

Science Students shouldn’t write Arts paper

Wednesday, 26 April 2006, 11:07 pm, me

Just had my first paper today. It felt like a long time since I have taken an exam, and what more and essay paper.

Somehow even when answering the essay question, I think I answered it in a rather scientific manner. Even if not, I kept thinking of ways to quantify my qualitative argument.

“What is your definition of a Singapore film?” started with defining a set of criteria, which is typical, but almost escalated into me assigning weights to them and creating a fuzzy set. In another question I ended up saying that the sample size is insufficient for me to conclusively answer the question! Eeks.

Seriously, since they are encouraging cross discipline studies, we should take into considerations the differences in the students and mark accordingly. =)

Haha.. yah fat hope. Another arts paper next thurs. Feels like I have come this far only to be killed by an arts module.

Watch the Lamb

Saturday, 22 April 2006, 2:42 am, me

A song sung by Simon of Cyrene

Walking on the road to Jerusalem
The time had come to sacrifice again
My only son, he walked beside me on the road
The reason that he came was the watch the lamb

Daddy, daddy, what will I see there
There’s so much that I don’t understand
So I told him of Moses and father Abraham
Then I said my dear son watch the lamb

There will be so many in Jerusalem today
We must be sure that the lamb doesn’t run away
And I told him of Moses and father Abraham
Then I said my dear son watch the lamb

When we reached the city, I knew that something must be wrong
There were no joyful worshipers, no joyful worship songs
I stood there with family, in the midst of angry men
Then I heard the crowd cry out, crucify Him

We tried to leave the city, but we could not get away
Forced to play in this drama, a part I did not wish to play
Why upon this day, were men condemned to die?
Why were we standing here, where soon they would pass by?

Then someone said there’s Jesus, I scare believed my eyes
A man so badly beaten, he barely looked alive
Blood poured from His body, from the forms upon His brow
Running down the cross, falling to the ground

I watched His as He struggled, I watched Him as He fell
The cross came down upon His back, The crowd began to yell
In that moment I felt such agony, in that moment I felt such loss
Till a Roman soldier grabbed my arm and screamed, “You! Carry His cross!”

(Musical interlude, Jesus gets nailed to the cross)

Oh never have I seen such love in any other eyes
Into thy hand I commit my spirit, He prayed and then He died
I stood for what seemed like years, I’d lost all sense of time
Until I felt two tiny hands holding tight to mine
My child stood there weeping, I heard him say
Father please forgive me, the lamb ran away

Daddy, daddy, what have I seen here?
There’s so much that I don’t understand
So I took him in my arms, and we turned and faced the cross
Then I said my dear son watch the Lamb

High Tech Misadventure

Tuesday, 18 April 2006, 12:45 am, me

Just the other day a friend and I decided, after exhausting all other choices, to go have dinner at the Havelock Road Bak Kut Teh. So there was I in his car already planning out the route in my mind when my friend whipped out his new GPS receiver.

Well GPS guidence system is way cool technology so regardless having driven there a few times before, it’s excusable to just use it “in case we get lost”. So he brought up the recently used locations and selected the place.

I must say the system is really fun, that is until it asked us to exit at Alexandra Road. I questioned my friend and he replied, “Um… I just updated the map last night so this must be a new route.” Okay I thought, there’s more than one way to get there.

Until it asked us to turn south and the head west on Pasir Panjang. Now that’s really wrong. Told my friend but he insisted we should trust technology. Rather I choose to believe that he was just curious as to where it was leading us.

So we passed Labardor park and he decided to check the route. Here’s what it was:

Routing Bug

ROFL!!! The stupid thing routed us into the sea! Hahahaha…

We checked and found out that when updating the map, the recently used entries were no longer linked to the correct location on the new map, resulting in it trying to bring us into the Straits. Normally my friend would have checked the route but having used it a few times he trusted it should be ok. Ah… complancency, the cause of most accidents.

That said the gadget is still nice to have. But in Singapore? Ok I do know of people who gets hopelessly lost even in such a small city as SG. But they had better check the route before setting off. haha.

Shuffle and Play

Monday, 17 April 2006, 1:17 am, me

Got tagged by Soph with this silly meme. Ok actually her results were quite funny enough for me to go try.

Instructions: Go to your player of choice and put it on shuffle. Say the following questions aloud (quite silly and unnecessary), and press play. Use the song title as the answer to the question. DO NOT CHEAT. It’s not fun if you do.

1) How does the world see me?
It Came Upon a Midnight Clear - Frank Sinatra
Means I’m nocturnal?

2) Will I have a happy life?
Feliz Navidad - Bonnie M
Merry like Christmas! Hohoho

3) What do my friends really think of me?
Do I have to say the word - Bryan Adams
that bad ah?

4) Do people secretly lust after me?
Under the sea - Disney
Only sea creatures I guess

5) How can I make myself happy?
The Walk - Steven Curtis Chapman
Eh I dun really like walking leh. Maybe I should give it a try

6) What can I do with my life?
Jitterbug Stroll - Steven Mitchell
Dance?

7) Will I ever have children?
You’re My Inspiration - Chicago
Bleah

8) What is some good advice for me?
Easy Does It - The Big Easy
Syntactically correct advice, but semantically questionable

9) How will I be remembered?
It Came Upon a Midnight Clear - Carpenters
Wah… It’s the same as how the world sees me! So qiao.

10) What is my signature dancing song?
Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas - Johnny Mathis
Can dance to meh this song? More like a chilling song

11) What do I think my current theme song is?
Highest - Hillsongs
Not exactly at the highest now leh…

12) What does everyone else think my current theme song is?
The Winner Takes It All - ABBA
True, but who’s the winner?

13) What song will play at my funeral?
Have You Seen My Childhood - Michael Jackson
What’s wrong with my childhood?

14) What sort of men/women do i like?
When God Ran - Craig & Dean Philips
Eh I dunno how to interpret this… Godly women?

15) What is my day going to be like?
Maria - Steven Curtis Chapman
Quite accurate going by the song, but thankfully this wasn’t the answer to the next question…

and the silly Soph’s own question (not included in the original meme)…
16) What will my wife be like?
Blind Lead the Blind - Steven Curtis Chapman
Wah cannot be blind lead blind loh. Jialat.

Ok that’s the end. So silly and funny.

The Calm

Wednesday, 5 April 2006, 9:25 pm, me

It is eerily quiet for a Wednesday night in school.

The ground still wet and the air cool.

It must be the calm after the storm.
