I is Kermit the Frog

Sunday, 26 March 2006, 9:11 pm, me

Kermit the FrogKermit the Frog
You scored 43% Organization, 50% abstract, and 74% extroverted!

You are mostly organized, both concrete and abstract, and more extroverted.

I don’t really take such tests but this one is just too nostalgic to pass and after reading it on some friends’ blog, I felt the test is very well done and the analysis have a certain level of credibility, unlike some tests which just anyhow hantam. Which is why I decided to try it out.

This test measured 3 variables.

First, this test measured how organized you are. Some muppets like Cookie Monster make big messes, while others like Bert are quite anal about things being clean.

Second, this test measured if you prefer a concrete or an abstract viewpoint. For the purposes of this test, concrete people are considered to gravitate more to mathematical and logical approaches, whereas abstract people are more the dreamers and artistic type.

Third, this test measured if you are more of an introvert or an extrovert. By definition, an introvert concentrates more on herself and an extrovert focuses more on others. In this test an introvert was somebody that either tends to spend more time alone or thinks more about herself.

See they even explain the variables used.

Rather accurate the analysis is. Stuff I agree with in bold. My comments in brackets.

Here is why are you Kermit the Frog.

You are both somewhat organized. You have a good idea where you put things and you probably keep your place reasonably clean (Clean means can still be messy yah?). You aren’t totally obsessed with neatness though. Kermit is also reasonably tidy. He’ll even dress up for interviews.

You both are sometimes concrete and sometimes abstract thinkers. Kermit spends a lot of his time as a reporter collecting facts, but he is also the author of the dreamy song “The Rainbow Connection.” You have a good balance in your life. You know when to be logical at times, but you also aren’t afraid to explore your dreams and desires… within limits of course.

You are both extroverts (me extrovert?). Kermit gets along with everyone. Sure a few folks annoy him, but that’s just because they are annoying. Kermit likes to meet new people when he does his job as a street reporter. You definitely enjoy the company of others, and you don’t have problems meeting new people… in fact you probably look forward to it. You are willing to take charge when necessary or work as part of a team.

Oh, and in case you were wondering, Kermit starred on Sesame Street years before The Muppet Show.

Ah how come so many personality tests say I’m more extroverted? I dun feel like I am leh…

Take the Sesame Street Test here.

Room 307

Sunday, 26 March 2006, 1:27 pm, me

After hours of shooting and editing, it’s finally done.

Room 307

Don’t ask me why the title is Room 307. We couldn’t think of a better one.

Overall it looks a bit more polished than my previous production but of course this is still far from perfect. There’s still a couple of edits I want to make but then dateline has passed and I still have a thesis to write. I’ll probably edit it when I’m doing a final master.

Note: You might need an updated XviD codec to watch. Download the latest codec here.

Update: A second cut of the film.

As again, comments are always welcomed.

Losing Focus

Tuesday, 21 March 2006, 11:39 pm, me

Today when I was starting to do some editing on our short film, I noticed the tiny text on the screen getting blurer, then suddenly snapping back into focus.

Immediate thought was that auto focus was behaving badly and have to switch to manual when I realised the next moment that computer monitors dun have focus! So it only means one thing — that my eye is the one that’s losing focus.

It seems that by just relaxing and not reading the text, my eye loses focus which probably means its muscles are relaxing. Dunno if it’s a sign of extreme tiredness, caffiene high or that I’m going blind.

But then again, it’s not just my eyes that are losing focus… sigh

Compromise

Tuesday, 14 March 2006, 1:50 am, me

Did something last night that I hope wouldn’t set a precedence. It might not seem such a big thing but it’s more the matter of how much, for who and what.

Couldn’t really sleeping knowing what I did. Hopefully it’ll pass in time as some spur of irrationality which I someday won’t regret. Hopefully a small crack won’t break the whole dam.

Tired and Stressed

Monday, 13 March 2006, 3:24 am, me

Been so tired for the past week, having to wake up before 12 everyday. Not that it’s really that early but the main problem being that I can’t seem to sleep early enough to get sufficient rest. Somehow I’ll just stay up into the night even though I’ve been really really tired through the day.

So late nights and early morning translates to a zombie in the day, which means greater unproductivity (yes i know there’s no such word) in the day. So end up not doing anything at all. Which is bad cos now I only have like 3 weeks more till my HYP report is due and I haven’t really gotten down to writing yet.

I just don’t want to do it. Which is weird cos I liked doing research, or at least I enjoyed it previously. Now I just want it to go away and not have to touch it, which is going to be a problem if I am going to continue with post-graduate studies. For now I’ll just dismiss it as having chosen a bad topic.

Then there’s the shoot. For those who have done it before you’ll know how physically exhausting is, especially when nobody else has any experience. Having to be the director, the DoP and camera operator is bad enough, on top of having to deal with very tried actors and an ambitious script and a very tight schedule. An entire day spent on shooting is just too tiring to do back to back.

Not that making a flim isn’t fun, but the stress comes from being the only person in the group to know how to. Not that it’s their fault but on hindsight we shouldn’t have been too ambitious with such a long narrative.

That said I don’t think I know what to do anymore. Things which I liked are becoming very painful. I don’t want to do anything anymore. Such a torture.

The Best I Ever Had

Sunday, 12 March 2006, 11:46 pm, me

The Best I Ever Had (Grey Sky Morning)
Vertical Horizon

So you sailed away
Into a grey sky morning
Now I’m here to stay
Love can be so boring

Nothing’s quite the same now
I just say your name now

But it’s not so bad
You’re only the best I ever had
You don’t want me back
You’re just the best I ever had

So you stole my world
Now I’m just a phony
Remembering the girl
Leaves me down and lonely

Send it in a letter
Make yourself feel better

But it’s not so bad
(Not so bad…)
You’re only the best I ever had
You don’t need me back
(Need me back…)
You’re just the best I ever had

And it may take some time to
Patch me up inside
But I can’t take it so I
Run away and hide
And I may find in time that
You were always right
You’re always right

So you sailed away
Into a grey sky morning
Now I’m here to stay
Love can be so boring

What was it you wanted
Could it be I’m haunted

But it’s not so bad
You’re only the best I ever had
I don’t want you back
You’re just the best I ever had

The best I ever had
The best I ever…

A little film publicity…

Friday, 3 March 2006, 1:20 am, me

…in a bid to create more awareness to local films in Singapore.

FOCAL 2006

NTU School of Art, Design and Media is currently hosting their first film festival “FOCAL 2006″ from now till the 18th of March.

Hosting the short films of internationally acclaimed local film makers such as Ellery Ngiam, Eng Yee Peng, Victric Thng, Wee Li Lin, Sun Koh and Tan Pin Pin, it offers quite an insight into the our very own Singaporean products, other than the more mainstream Eric Khoo and Jack Neo.

Screening of the films are held every Tuesday and Thursday evenings at NTU, with the directors being present on some days to host a discussion.

A great effort for such a new team. Do visit their website at http://focal2006.ibics.net/

Singapore GaGa

Singapore GaGa

Was invited to a press screening of the Singapore GaGa, a Tan Pin Pin film. First time a local film is released this way to bloggers we were told.

Overall a nicely done documentary on the inner life of Singapore, one which we might know but have never given much thought. Like most arty films, Singapore GaGa takes a rather different approach to mainstream documentaries which most are familar with, but still keeps sufficient footing on the ground to make it enjoyable.

Discussion
Margret and Director Tan Pin Pin during the dicussion

So if you have extra cash in your pocket and a weekend to waste, stay away from the Hollywood blockbusters for once and head down to Art House and catch this film. Keep an open mind and I’m sure your perspective will be changed.

Mr Brown and Miyagi
Us with Mr Brown and Miyagi

Not surprisingly, met Mr Brown and Miyagi at the screening too. Very surprisingly, found my flim class lecturer with them! Dr Edna is way cool (not that she’s not already cool enough) to know such people personally. w00t! Now I feel like doing my Masters in film under her. haha
