Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Charlie and the Chocolate FactoryAnother great film by Tim Burton. One of the best book to film I’ve ever seen.

The characters and story were modernised yet also keeping in line with the original spirit. Even the colours make it all so surreal.

I just love the way Johnny Depp played Wonka. So eccentric, wild and fun. Just like how I’ve always imagined Wonka to be.

Even though not exactly what Roald Dahl would have had in mind, I’m sure he would be pleased how his work is portrayed in this era.

Also found that not many people had read the book from their reaction during the show. The theatre was blocked booked so I guess everyone was unrestrained in their expressions. Whatever did they read in their childhood, if they ever did read at all? Sad deprived childhood.

Don’t think anybody got the spoof of 2001: A Space Odyssey either. Don’t think anyone has even heard of the book or movie. Ah well… too bad for them then.

btw, would very much liked to watch Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, a 1971 version of the story by Mel Stuart. Screenwriter John August had never even seen that film. After finishing the screenplay, he finally watched the 1971 version, only to be surprised at how much darker the “family” film was to his own.

Well, beatniks for one, folk singers and motorbike riders. Y’know. All those hip, jazzy, super cool, neat, keen, and groovy cats. It’s in the fridge, daddy-o! Are you hip to the jive? Can you dig what I’m layin’ down? I knew that you could. Slide me some skin, soul brother!

The way it was said by Wonka was so cool. Totally unlike the way it would be said. So smooth and gentle, totally ironic. w00t
