Happy SAAD
to all you system administrators out there.
The life of a sysadmin is indeed though. So though posted a little late, it’s still not too late to create more awareness of System Administrator Appreciation Day.
Let’s celebrate it by singing the sysadmin song!

Wordpress Backup Week
Hmm.. the week officially started 4 days ago but come on, where got people start the week on Saturday one? Ok school going kids might argue that their week long holiday do start on a Saturday cos it’s a weekend too.
Technicalities aside, think the recent Xiaxue incident is a rather apt reminder to back up your blog regularly, be it on some commercial server or your own.
Wordpress is so like our “gahmen”, have awareness campaigns to educate its users. By default the admin “dashboard” is even set up to retrieve news and updates.
So fellow Wordpress users, just click on the Backup Week link there and you’ll find a slew of tools written by other fellow users to help automate the backup process. Don’t try meddling with the database if you’re unsure else you might just corrupt everything.
Wordpress is not just a blogging tool. It’s a community.
Aroint thee Google!
Some people will do anything to get the page rank of their blog or site high enough to be on Google’s front page, some people rather not be there.
It’s scary to know that what people can find just by entering your name into a search engine. They could find something you would not want them to see.
A dear friend was complaining how her blog turned up first in a Google search. Well girl, either you’re a well known blogger or you just have too unique a name.
Good think I told her about meta tags and robot rules before she paranoiacally goes and remove all references of her name. So before the next crawl removes all references, here’s the search page immortalised forever.

Don’t even need the quotation marks!
With friends like me… well I guess you still need real enemies.
King James
James 5:16b
“The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.”
- King James Version“The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.”
- New International Version“The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and wonderful results.”
- New Living Translation
effectual - Producing or sufficient to produce a desired effect; fully adequate.
fervent - Having or showing great emotion or zeal; ardent.
availeth - To be of use or advantage to; help
This is why I so like the King James Translation.
Rabbits are for…
…eating. Well among other things that is.
Came across “this crap site” in Bin’s blog. Basically it’s about a guy who has a rabbit named Toby, and threatens to eat it if he doesn’t manage to sell enough books by some date.
Writing a story about the rabbit, making it personal with a name and cute photos of it, all just to exploit the emotions of the soft hearted.
Sorry loh but I dun buy it. Maybe Andre would but not me. I mean who cares about your rabbit? It’s your rabbit so if anybody should have a emotional attachment it would be you. Go ahead and eat your rabbit if you want.
Told Binbin that rabbits are for eating and he said I’m “evil”?! You eat chickens, ducks, pigs, goats and lamb all the time and you say eating rabbits is evil?
People are irrational. - QED
Bloggers.SG != Yawn
Well just what does ST expect from a bloggers convention? Maybe they din have enuff sleep the night before.
Found it rather nice although I only stayed for the first half. Would very much like to stay till the end but had to rush off to church.
Didn’t really mix around much as I dun know anyone, or rather nobody knew me, but it was interesting to see the different blogging societies and the more well known bloggers.
Looking forward to next years Con, which I’m sure there will be. Hopefully won’t have to go alone again.
PS: Read more about it on tomorrow.sg and wikipedia.
