US Indy Farce

WTF are teams still pointing the finger at the FIA about not building a chicane? I just can’t believe their immaturity.

In summary, for those not into Formula 1, nine out of ten teams initally refuse to race due to abnormal tyre wear unless the portions of the track which caused those problems be altered. In the end only 6 cars started the race to the disappointment of the fans.

To draw an analogy, it’s like asking to make your goal post made smaller cos your goal-keeper is too short to dive the length. Or asking for slide tackles to be banned from a match cos your team forgot their shin-guards.

It’s absurd right? To anyhow change the rules just cos of your own team’s negligence. To trivally admend the rules for any sporting event would surely diminish the standard of the sport. I applaud the FIA on making the stand not to bend the rules for this situation, though I’m still against the recently introduced tyre rules.

To quote Peter Windsor, Former Formula One public relations guru turned journalist:

“It’s the teams, these massively paid teams and drivers, who have a responsibility to the fans,” he insisted, “Not one of those Michelin team guys said ‘we made a horrendous mistake today and we take full responsibility’.

“All they did was blame the FIA, blame Bernie, blame Ferrari, blame Bridgestone, blame everyone else - but they never actually blamed themselves. Do you know how many teams from Michelin actually did the pre-USA tyre test to select the correct tyre for Indianapolis? Two - everyone else was at Silverstone.”

Which I’d wish I could say to the teams and Michelin to wake up their bloody idea and stop ruining the sport.
