Categories

Friday, 27 May 2005, 9:34 pm, me

Finally got down to categorising my entries. Stephanie’s batch categories hack/addon did make the job easier though I had to make some minor modifications to get it working for WP 1.5.

One of the problems I often see is that people tend to create new category whenever they write an entry that doesn’t seem to fit into any exisitng category. What happens is a sudden explosion of categories and sub-categories with only a single entry in them. Now the categories are too specific to be of any use.

To prevent myself from falling into that trap, I’ve decided to create a few very general categories and specific ones only when there are enough entries to warrant it. Sorry Jiabin, but with the amount of suan you got and foreseeing many more, I’ve decided to create a special category for you. Now don’t complain about not being privileged enough.

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe

Friday, 27 May 2005, 5:44 pm, me

The Lion, the Witch and the WardrobeSaw a trailer before Episode 3 which looked familar. Was sure I have never seen it before - due to my prolonged absence from the theatres - felt like a deja vu until they got to the part about the mysterious door. Then it hit me.

It was one of the greatest fairy tale classics of all times. It was so long ago I can hardly remember the story. Belonged to my cousin I believe as were most of the books I read back then. C S Lewis was just great. Move over Enid, you don’t stand a chance.

Even though it’s a must watch, as with all books made into movies, there will be differences enough for fans to cry foul. But don’t think of it as C S Lewis’ movie, think of it as a particular interpretation, the director’s view of the story. Because stories will always live in your imagination, just as Aslan’s voice will always be uniquely yours. So let no movie or animation take that away.

Therefore read the story first, build your own world, then watch the movie with an open mind, and be secretly amused when the director’s imagination and interpretation cannot be compared to yours.

“Someday you will be old enough to start reading fairy tales again.” - I think the time is now.

INT. WAI KAY’S ROOM - NIGHT

Holo-phone stated ringing last night. Surprised hoping for a moment that it might be Yoda. But realising the impossibility of that happening, I glanced down to see “Justina” displayed on the phone. Hmm what does she want? She must be desprate as holo-call charges aren’t cheap. Somemore from the other side of the planet.

Well, have to answer to find out.

Turns out she needed help to move house. I must say a holo-call is a great way to persuade. But seriously, if by some miracle of God I’m given the air tickets and a new passport (mine just expired) I’d be more than happy to go. A 24hr drive alone is definately not fun.

So what are you waiting for? Help Justina by clicking on the nice button below.

Me having MPD?

Friday, 27 May 2005, 12:45 am, me

Just found out that some people (read a certain medical student) did not know that Justina has been posting here. You mean the author name not big enough is it? Er… yah actually it’s rather small but then you’re not blind yah?

Ok granted most blogs only have one author and it’s normal to assume that. But with entries like Southpark YK, A silly story for yk and My trackback I’d thought the title would be obvious enough. Yet even after reading the content have you never wondered why I was refering to myself in the third person? Some person actually thought I could be having a case of MPD.

Well some people do intentionally blog that way or really have MPD (Multiple Personality Disorder) but the author tag clearly states otherwise. And her name is even listed among the friends link at the side!

Please… Wai Kay’s not suffering from MPD ok? Stop bugging him about it.

New layout

Friday, 27 May 2005, 12:20 am, me

After much procratination, finally got down to redesigning the layout to a 2-col format. It dose resembles the Wordpress Default but how varied can you get with a 2-col layout? Jiabin actually tot I meant 2-colour when I told him. Can’t blame him lah, he’s a med student after all.

Yah so I felt a 2-column format would be less cramp after a long post made my old layout look constipated. Looking at most of my works, you can figure I like white space a lot. The lack of it just grips me and since I don’t usually write long posts, this problem has never been noticed before.

Well now it looks much cleaner not having to squash stuff on both side. I don’t like users having to scroll to read the info stuff but this is for all you goons still using 800 x 600 res. But really, I shouldn’t be so compliant. Maybe I’ll design a theme for fellow l33t 1400 x 1050 users. heh

The old theme is still available using the theme switcher so choose your preference. Hacked the plugin so whatever settings you chose before will be defaulted so everyone will see my new theme at least once. hee

PS: One down Justina, many more to go…
